‘Pratidhwani’ art exhibition begins in memory of Gen-G movement, photos of photojournalists shot before they were shot
Kathmandu. A special art exhibition ‘Pratidhwani’ by martyr artist Binod Maharjan and injured photojournalist Dipendra Dhungana has started in Kathmandu from today.
The exhibition kicked off at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) on Wednesday and will continue till September 12.
The exhibition features artworks of artist Maharjan who attained martyrdom during the agitation as well as historical and unpublished photographs captured by photojournalist Dhungana before he was shot.
Photo journalist Dhungana, who was shot in front of the parliament building in Baneshwor during the agitation, said that the exhibition has included photos taken from Maitighar to Baneshwor just before he was injured.
‘I was shot in front of the Parliament House in Baneshwor on September 7 at around 1:30 pm. And the photos I took before I was shot on the 23rd, from the beginning of the rally from Maitighar to the gate of the Parliament House before I was shot, the unpublished photos are on display here today,” he said.
Recalling the moment of the incident, Dhungana said that the atmosphere feels very scary and sad when looking at those pictures now than then.
‘Now when I think of the day of September 23 or the day of the Gen-G movement, looking at the photos now, it looks a little sad, it looks scary. It wasn’t as scary then as it is now, when you look at the photos now, you remember the atmosphere there, what was the situation at that time, what the environment was like, how the firing took place, how the movement progressed,” he said.
Dhungana has also urged all to visit the exhibition to understand the real form of the Gen-G movement, the events from Maitighar to Baneshwor and the contemporary environment. The five-day exhibition is expected to play an important role in documenting the historical documentation of the movement and the realities of the time before the public.
