Attempts are being made to cover up the government’s weakness by blaming the National Assembly: MP Jhankri

Kathmandu. National Assembly member Ram Kumari Jhankri has objected to Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam for her statement that the National Assembly obstructed the formulation of laws.

Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly on Thursday, Jhankri demanded that the NA make public the details of the number of bills it has worked on so far.

A few days ago, Law Minister Gautam had said that the laws could not be made as per the wishes of the people due to the lack of representation of the National Independent Party in the National Assembly. Objecting to this, Jhankri said that the government is trying to cover up the weakness by blaming the National Assembly.

She said, “I want to draw attention to the statement of the Law Minister. How many laws did this government register in the National Assembly? The National Assembly should make public the details of how many laws came from the House of Representatives with reports and how many laws we worked on, and the government should take action against the law minister who spread such false information among the people.” She challenged the government to make public the facts, saying that if the National Assembly had stopped the law, the people would answer for it.

“If we stop the law, the people will punish us for it. Therefore, we have no right to hide our disqualification by showing the power of the National Assembly or by showing that we are not represented,” she said.

Jhankri demanded a public apology from the National Assembly for the remarks made by the Law Minister as he is also a member of Parliament.

“The Law Minister is also the Minister of Law. I want the National Assembly to rule to demand a public apology for his remarks from the House itself,” she said.
