. Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Kabindra Burlakoti has demanded the government to expedite the search and rescue operation as the condition of 51 people who reached Gorkha in the devastating floods in Rasuwa is still unknown.
Speaking in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Thursday, lawmaker Burlakoti paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the floods and extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
He said that many families are still on the road in the hope that their children, brothers and family members will return.
According to him, out of the 36 people who had gone on pilgrimage from Palungtar Municipality-5, Baghkhor area, six jumped out of the bus and survived. Of the remaining 30 people, the bodies of five have been recovered and the condition of the others is still unknown, he said.
He said, “Even today, Gorkha is waiting. When I was returning after a few days of stay in the district, I found that the eyes of many families were still on the road in the hope that their children, brothers and family members would return. The condition of thousands of people in this disaster is unknown. It is not possible to hold their eyes when they reach the homes of the affected families. Out of the 36 people who went on a pilgrimage in Palungtar-5 Baghkhor area, 6 managed to escape by jumping from the bus after seeing the floods and out of the remaining 30, the bodies of 5 have been found. The condition of the rest is still unknown. He stressed the need to regularly disseminate the authentic details of the missing, rescued and deceased to the affected ward levels and made arrangements to provide direct information to the families of the victims and victims.
He also said that more human resources, equipment and resources should be mobilized to identify the bodies found by conducting DNA tests immediately. Lawmaker Burlakoti stressed on the need of adopting a policy not to construct settlements and public structures in the disaster-prone areas in the coming days and to raise public awareness among the people in the vulnerable areas.
