Nepali Congress (NC) outgoing President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Thursday inspected the flood-ravaged Nuwakot region of Rasuwa and Bhotekoshi.

, Nepali Congress leaders Shashank Koirala, Prakash Sharan Mahat, Prakash Man Singh, Mohan Bahadur Basnet and other leaders and cadres visited the flood-hit areas along with Deuba.
During the inspection, Deuba met the locals affected by the floods and landslides and enquired about their condition and problems. He drew the attention of the government that adequate facilities are still not available in the affected areas. Deuba said that the locals have been facing more problems due to lack of access to road and transport in the affected areas.
Stating that floods and landslides have caused a big loss in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts, he called for immediate relief, rehabilitation and then reconstruction of the affected people.
He said, “What needs to be done here now is that there are four things of rescue, relief and rehabilitation, reconstruction. Survivors have come, you have seen it. Many people have died. In terms of relief, those who have not yet been able to eat properly, have not been able to live. He said that it is the responsibility of the government to provide food, accommodation and equitable facilities to the affected people. He also said that the government should start the rehabilitation work by making a plan about where to keep the displaced people tomorrow.
Floods and landslides have affected not only the three districts but also other areas, Deuba said that there is a problem in the supply of fuel and daily essentials. He paid tribute to those who lost their lives due to the disaster and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
Deuba also said that Nepal is at high risk of disasters like floods and landslides due to climate change. He said that Nepal will face more challenges in the coming days due to the receding snow in the mountains and climate change and global warming.
He said that they have come to know about the works being carried out by the government in the affected areas and the NC will exert pressure on the government if necessary works are not done.
‘We have come to know what the government has done and what it has not done. We will raise our voice, we will raise it outside, we will raise it in the press. We will raise our voice everywhere,” he said.
Similarly, Nepali Congress leader Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the state should actively work in the rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood-affected areas. He said that priority should be given to temporary housing, long-term rehabilitation and construction of physical infrastructure such as bridges and roads along with immediate relief after disaster. Mahat said, “Along with relief, this rehabilitation, temporary shelters and long-term rehabilitation, construction of bridges have become very important.” He said that although there was a lot of support from the citizens in the flood-affected areas, the state should take responsibility for the reconstruction. He demanded the government to immediately construct temporary structures and bailey bridges, giving priority to the areas that are far from the reach of transportation. Mahat said that temporary structures should be constructed at the earliest to facilitate the movement of people in the affected areas. He said that the Congress will also continue to provide necessary assistance and draw the attention of the government to the affected areas.
