Rasuwa Bhotekoshi Floods: 1,385 bodies recovered, over 4,000 missing
Kathmandu As many as 1,385 bodies and human organs have been recovered so far as search and rescue operations are underway following the floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. Nepal Police has released the latest status of search, rescue and management by releasing updated data.
According to the latest police data, 542 of the bodies were men and 338 women, while 505 partial human parts were recovered.
Out of the bodies found, 103 bodies have been identified and handed over to their relatives, while 1,148 bodies have been safely managed underground. Similarly, 1,326 unidentified details have been uploaded on the website. A total of 2,998 DNA samples have been collected for the identification of bodies, including 1,286 of the deceased and 1,712 of the relatives of the deceased.
So far, 4,089 people are missing due to the floods. Among the missing are 3,479 domestic nationals (2,907 males and 572 females) and 610 foreign nationals (272 males, 328 females and 10 others).
A total of
9,287 people have been rescued so far under the emergency rescue operation. Of these, 6,407 are male, 2,830 are female and 50 are unidentified. Of the rescued people, 3,176 are currently in various holding centres.
A total of 7,875 police personnel have been deployed for search and rescue operations in the affected areas. Due to the floods, 25 police personnel are still out of contact and 65 police personnel have been affected. Likewise, a total of 166 public awareness programs have been conducted in the disaster risk reduction and awareness raising areas in which 45,238 local people participated.
