Kathmandu. Rastriya Swatantra Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Ashika Tamang has drawn the attention of the government towards the shortage of cooking gas and black marketing in the market.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Friday, MP Tamang said that thousands of people complain to her daily that they do not get gas. She said that even though there is gas in the shop, the traders do not sell it.
“I get thousands of calls every day, Ashika didi, there is gas in the shop but the shopkeeper refuses to sell gas,” she said.
questioned the tendency of harassing the citizens by creating artificial shortage of gas, she doubted whether the mafia has become more powerful than the government.
‘This is gold in the glass, my ears are not like my children, Mr. Speaker? Is there a bigger mafia in this country than the government?’ she asked.
She demanded the government’s response saying that due to the shortage of gas, people are starving even after seeing gas in the shops. She also raised the question whether the representatives elected by the people with two-thirds majority should look into such a situation.
If there is indeed a shortage of gas, then the government should immediately make a formal announcement that gas is not available. In such a situation, the government should be ready to ask the citizens to cook food using firewood as an alternative, she said.
‘If there is really no gas, then the government should announce that there is no gas today. People should have been asked to find firewood and cook rice and eat it,” Tamang said.
She also satirized the tendency to change ministers frequently without resolving the problem of gas.
She said that if the ministers were to be changed every month for the sake of gas, the line of ministers would be more than the line of gas. She said, “If we change the ministers every month just for the sake of gas, then the line of ministers will be more than the line of gas.”
