Kathmandu. The National Statistical Office has intensified the data processing of the National Economic Census 2082.
The office has completed the on-site data collection and has now started the work of data coding, editing and data entry.
Deputy Chief Statistics Officer and Spokesperson at the National Statistics Office, Dhundiraj Lamichhane, said that the processing centre was used for processing the data of the economic census. According to him, data entry, form storage, coding and form management are being carried out on different floors of the processing center.
He said, “When the National Statistics Office conducted the National Census 2078, we started the work by setting up a processing center. Now we have completed the National Economic Census. The data coding, editing, and data entry of the economic census is being done here.” Lamichhane said that the work of data entry has been started for about nine days and 120 data entry operators have been mobilized for this. According to him, the data entry work of the Far-Western Province has been completed so far.
He informed that data entry of 93,444 establishments has been done so far. According to preliminary data, there are about 13,67,000 establishments in Nepal. Earlier, the first economic census conducted in 2075 BS had found that there were 9.23 lakh enterprises.
Lamichhane said, “In total, the data entry of 93,444 enterprise enterprises has been done while we are working. The initial result was that there are 13,67,000 enterprises across Nepal. Now, after coding, there may be a few digits in the data entry. The office aims to complete the data coding and data entry work within four months. Lamichhane said that the plan is to publish the results gradually within about six months.
According to him, the coding work of Far-West, Karnali and Lumbini provinces has been completed. The coding of about 4,04,094 academies of these three provinces has been completed and now the coding work of Bagmati province has started. He said that through coding, the details related to various businesses and establishments will be converted into marks according to certain criteria. This will facilitate data processing, group analysis and preparation of final results, the office said. The progress of the work being done at the processing center is also being monitored daily through a digital system. Lamichhane said that the details of the work done by each data entry operator will come to the data center and a system has been developed to match the details between coding and data entry.
The office has said that if there is any doubt or confusion about any details in the data collected, it calls the concerned institute and takes information again. Lamichhane said that according to the provision of the Statistics Act, 2079, the office has a provision to examine the details of the suspects, so the office contacts the institute as per the need.
According to him, so far, the office has confirmed and clarified the details from about 5,000 to 10,000 establishments through phone. For this, a separate system of calling from mobile phones has also been introduced in the office.
