Kathmandu. The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has formed a committee to assess the human and physical losses caused by the abnormal and adverse situation caused by the Bhotekoshi floods.
The committee formed under the convenorship of Director General of the Department of Transport Management, Rajiv Pokharel, will study the losses suffered in the public transport sector, the basis of compensation and other related issues and submit a report with necessary opinions and suggestions to the Minister within 15 days. Other members of the committee are Undersecretary Nirmala Gurung, CDE Shankar Singh Dhami, RP Mahato, Dil Bahadur Shrestha, Shree Shrestha and Hari Bhakta Shrestha from Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs and Dharma Raj Bhandari, Bhim Jwala Rai and Deepak KC from Transport Workers’ Union. Similarly, another committee has been formed to revise the policies, rules, acts, laws and standards related to the transport sector as per the time. The committee has been formed under the coordination of Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Jung Bahadur Dangi, to resolve the possible problems that may arise in the future and to make the transport sector more systematic. The members of the committee are CDE Jibendra Mishra, CDE Maniram Bhusal, Engineer Sagar Panthi, Anukull Nidhi, Law Officer Januka Shiwakoti and Dakenath Gautam, Bhanubhakta Baral and Purushottam Simkhada from the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs. The committee has to carry out necessary study and submit a report along with its suggestions within 45 days.
Based on the reports of both the committees, the Ministry will come up with necessary policy and legal reforms for the management of damage to the transport sector affected by floods and for minimizing the problems arising out of such disasters in the future.
