Chauthchandra (Chaurchan) festival concludes
Janakpur. The Chauth Chandra festival is celebrated in Mithilanchal on Monday. On the occasion of the festival, the moon and Lord Ganesha are worshiped in every house and various fruits and offerings are offered to the moon.
On the Chauth Chandra festival celebrated on the day of Bhadra Shukla Chaturthi, the devotees who fasted made aripan in the courtyard or porch in the evening and worshiped them by placing two urns. The fast was concluded by having darshan of the moon after decorating various types of offerings on the plate and various types of prasad on the plate and worshiping with the chanting of mantras by the pandit.
Curd, dates, pirikia, snacks, coconut, cucumber, apple, banana, peas and other items were offered as prasad during the festival. Rice pudding, dishes made from wheat flour, curd and local fruits were used. Yam chutney is also given special importance in the Chauth Chandra festival.
There is a religious belief that if you see the moon with the fourth moon, you will get rid of various types of stigmas. There is also a tradition of telling religious stories related to Lord Ganesha and the moon before seeing the moon.
According to religious mythology, Ganesha cursed the moon after seeing the form of Lord Ganesha. It is believed that after worshiping Ganesha, the moon is freed from the curse.
The story of Lord Krishna is also associated with Chauthchandra. It is said that after fighting Jambavanta for 27 days in search of Samantaka Mani, Shri Krishna obtained the gem and married Jambavati in the process. It is believed that with this incident, the stigma on Shri Krishna was removed.
On the basis of these religious beliefs, there has been a tradition of seeing the moon with fruits during the Chauth Chandra festival. This festival, which is celebrated in every household of Mithilanchal, has been connecting with religious faith as well as family unity and local agricultural culture.
