Chothchandra festival celebrated with great enthusiasm in Mithila region including Sunsari

Inaruwa. Ganesh Chaturthi or Chothchandra (Chaurchan) festival is celebrated with reverence, devotion and gaiety in the Mithila region including Sunsari. This festival, which has special significance in Mithila culture, worships the moon and wishes for the happiness, peace, health, and prosperity of the family.
On the occasion of the Chothachandra festival, which is celebrated on the fourth day of Bhadra Shukla Paksha, the Maithil community of this region made an aripan (chapin) by sacredly plastering the courtyard and roof of their houses. After that, various types of dishes, fruits, and special curd kept in chakmaro (earthen pots) were offered to the moon. On the occasion of the festival, there is a tradition of offering pedas, puris, fruits, and offerings to the moon and seeing the moon at night.
According to religious beliefs, seeing the moon on this day is believed to get rid of false stigma or stigma in the society and bring family welfare. The Maithil community living in various places including Inaruwa, Itahari, Duhabi and Dharan of Sunsari has celebrated this festival with enthusiasm with their families. On the occasion of the festival, the women of the house fasted throughout the day and performed ritualistic puja in the evening.
