Ila Patel arrested with jewelry worth Rs 25.1 million {{}

Bhairahawa The Armed Police Force (APF) has recovered one kilogram of gold from a woman who was returning to Nepal from India. The police have arrested a woman with a huge quantity of gold ornaments during a check based on a special tip-off at the Shanti Gate checkpoint at Siddharthanagar Municipality-1 in Rupandehi.

A seven-member team led by Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police Force (APF) Gopi Krishna Bhattarai of Nepal Border Security Battalion, Danda, Rupandehi found Ila Patel, 46, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-19 in a suspicious condition while she was entering Nepal from India at around 8 pm on Wednesday. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Armed Police Force, Rupandehi, Gopi Krishna Bhattarai, said that a team of three police personnel under the command of Sub Inspector of Police Lal Bahadur KC of Area Police Office, Belhiya, carried out a joint search and recovered various types of jewelry made of yellow metal from his possession. According to Bhattarai, the total weight of the seized jewelry was 2 kg 605 grams.

It was tested by the Gold and Silver Dealers Association, Rupandehi and it was confirmed to contain one kilogram of gold. He said that after the test, the price of gold was set at Rs 2,51,93,350.

The confiscated jewelry includes nine necklaces of various designs, 81 rings, 13 bangles, four necklaces, eight chain chains, 20 stone earrings, 24 earrings, 14 ring rings, one locket, 17 bangles and 24 chains. Similarly, 188 pairs of earrings, 64 pairs of earrings, 22 nosebleeds, two stone necklaces, 10 small earrings, 11 pairs of earrings and eight bracelets were also confiscated. The Armed Police Force (APF) has handed over the arrested Patel and the seized jewelry to the Bhairahawa Customs Office, Rupandehi on September 1 for necessary action.

Security agencies have been increasing surveillance to control the illegal smuggling of gold and other valuable goods in the Belahiya area, which is one of the main entry points from India. In this case, further investigation and action will be taken by the customs office regarding the source of the seized gold, the customs process and the purpose of the smuggling.
