Fear of wildlife has made life difficult for people living in buffer zone: MP Thebe

Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Kshitij Thebe has drawn the attention of the government to resolve the problems faced by the people of Hetauda and Manahari areas of Makwanpur.

Speaking in the House of Representatives on Friday, lawmaker Thebe said that due to the buffer zone, the locals are not able to repair their houses and construct tents on their own land.

He said, “Today, due to the buffer zone, the people there have not been able to avoid the collapse of their houses. They are not in a position to put a tent on their land. Daily life is full of struggle. In the evening, there is a fear that wild animals will eat their domestic sheep and goats. It is equally difficult to commute in the evening. The accidents and deaths caused by repeated collisions with the spotted deer are very distressing. He said that the daily life of the locals living in the buffer zone has become difficult due to the risk of wildlife. He said that it is difficult to move in the evening and the wildlife causes damage to the livestock.

Lawmaker Thebe said that the problem of traffic accidents and human casualties caused by collisions with wild animals including deer is also serious. He said that due to the buffer zone, the local people are not only facing difficulties in carrying out daily life but also in development construction and utilizing natural resources. Lawmaker Thebe said that although the locals have been drawing the attention of the concerned bodies time and again to resolve the problem, no concrete initiative has been taken. He mentioned that this issue was raised time and again in the previous House of Representatives. He demanded that the government should take immediate initiative to resolve the problems faced by the residents of Hetauda and Manahari rural municipalities.
