BHAIRAHAWA: Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel has said that Lumbini Buddhist University should be developed with a distinct identity from other universities.
In his address to a reception organized by Lumbini Bouddha University here today, Minister Pokharel said that the University established in Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, should focus its objective so as to make the Buddhist philosophy, unique knowledge and Nepal’s indigenous identity known to the world. He also stressed that the university should not be limited to the traditional subjects like engineering and science but should also give priority to the study, research and promotion of Buddhist philosophy and related subjects. He said that even though the constituent campuses of the university are expanding, it should not deviate from its main objective and teaching and study of Buddhist philosophy. He said that the university should move forward by collaborating with other educational institutions while maintaining its unique identity. On the occasion, it was discussed that there is ample potential to introduce Nepal’s indigenous identity, originality and indigenous knowledge to the world through Lumbini Buddhist University. Meanwhile, Lumbini Buddhist University has provided Rs 1
0 lakh to the flood victims of Rasuwa.
The amount was handed over to the relief fund through Minister for Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel on Friday. According to the university, the amount has been provided to help in the relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by the floods.
