Mugu. The blood bank has come into operation for the first time at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Jumla. This service has been started at a time when there was a problem in the management of blood during treatment at the hospital.
The blood transfusion service was established in collaboration between the America-Nepal Medical Foundation (ANMF) and the Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS). The service established with the help of the foundation will now be available at the Academy. Earlier, the relatives of the patients had to go to different places to search for blood in case of emergency, surgery, maternity, accident and other treatment.
In some cases, there is a compulsion to manage blood even from outside Jumla, according to the Academy. It is expected that the operation of blood transfusion service will facilitate the management of blood for patients suffering from emergency treatment, surgery, maternity, injuries and other complicated conditions.
Director of the institute Dr. Namrab Bista has taken the operation of blood transfusion service as an important achievement in the direction of providing essential health services to the people of Karnali in their own area. According to him, the institute has prioritized the expansion of health services and improvement in the quality of health services by identifying the needs of the patients and service recipients. He said that the work of providing easy and safe health services to the citizens will be continued by making maximum use of the available resources.
“The blood transfusion service started today is just the beginning,” Director Bista said, adding, “We will continue to expand the service in the coming days so that the people of Karnali can get easy, safe and quality health services at their own place.” The institute expects that the blood transfusion service will be useful especially for the patients coming to Jumla for treatment from the remote mountainous areas. The service will further facilitate the treatment of patients who need blood immediately during maternity, accident, surgery and emergency treatment.
The Academy has expressed gratitude to the ANMF, doctors, health workers, employees and all those who contributed directly or indirectly for their support in establishing and operating the blood transfusion service.
With the commencement of blood transfusion service, the foundation has been prepared to reduce the need to depend on other places for blood required for treatment in Jumla.
