Inaruwa. The great and sacred festival of the women of Maithili and Tharu communities living in different parts of the district, including the district headquarters Inaruwa, is being celebrated with reverence, devotion and gaiety.
Mothers who have received a son are faithfully observing a strict fast with the wish of happiness, peace, longevity and progress of their children.
On the first day of the festival, which is celebrated from Panchami to Saptami, women take a bath in a river, lake or pond and perform the ritual of ‘Nahay-Khay’.
Similarly, on the next day, on the main day of the festival, on Saturday, women observe a strict fast throughout the day without food and without drinking water. On the last day of the fast, the festival will be completed on Sunday.
Inaruwa, Harinagar, Bhutaha, Dewagunj, Koshi Rural Municipality and other rural and urban areas of Sunsari district are celebrating the Jitiya festival.
On the occasion of Jitiya festival, artistic idols of clay are made in different places of the district, worshiping Jibutavahana and fasting mothers have filled baskets. On Saturday, the mothers performed puja on the artistic idols of the deity Jibutwahan and other gods and goddesses at different places on Saturday.
On the occasion of
the festival, the local market is crowded with people shopping for puja materials, fruits, new clothes and cultural items like ‘Jhinjiya’.
Traditional Jitiya songs and dances in the villages of Mithilanchal have made the entire atmosphere culturally joyful.
According to Hindu mythology, this fast, popularly known as King Jitvahana, is believed to avert the calamity of the children.
This festival has made a special contribution to family harmony, mutual unity and cultural preservation.
Women of Tharu, Maithil and other communities have been fasting and worshiping on the occasion of the Jitiya festival. Locals have said that fairs have also been organized in different places of the district on the occasion of the festival.
