Kathmandu. Arrangements have been made to make it easier for journalists to collect and disseminate news during the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress, said Jeevan Bhandari, chief of the media center of the Nepali Congress.
Informing about the general convention that kicked off at the Khula Manch in Kathmandu, Bhandari said the media has been given priority to inform the delegates and leaders and cadres from home and abroad as well as the people around the world who have faith in NC about the activities of the general convention. Stating that the NC believes in democracy, press freedom and freedom of expression, he said special provision has been made for journalists in the general convention. He said, “Press freedom and freedom of expression are the lifeblood of democracy, that is why the Nepali Congress has given space to the media center or even the media in the general convention.” He said that necessary arrangements have been made for the installation of internet, Wi-Fi, plug and camera required for the live broadcast of the media at the convention venue. Stating that the media has been given space in front of the stage, he said that the NC has provided space to the media in a way that is convenient for the media as compared to other programs. He informed that the media center has been equipped with computers and free and dedicated Wi-Fi for news writing. He said that manpower has also been mobilized on a volunteer basis to help the journalists.
Some do news work, some do video work, some do photo work,” he said. According to Bhandari, about 15-20 journalists and assistants have been mobilized at the media center. The activities of the general convention, photos, videos, audio and news materials will also be made available through the NC Media Center’s WhatsApp group, email and the official Facebook page of the Congress.
He said that preparations are being made to hold press briefings twice a day during the general convention. He said that after the closed session, the media briefing will be held twice a day, in the afternoon and in the evening.
He said that the media will also be informed about the work done by the 15 committees formed for the general convention and new decisions from time to time. He also said that the media center will also facilitate the candidates who want to announce their candidacy and hold press conferences. Bhandari said that the media in the country and abroad will be provided a feed and link for the live broadcast of the general convention. He said that the media can broadcast live through this link and there will be no additional fee and copyright related problems for this. He clarified that although the entry of journalists would be managed as the closed session is beginning from tomorrow, there would be no obstruction in the entry of journalists coming to the convention venue and media centre for news collection.
“I can confidently say that there will be no obstacles for journalists to come to the Khula Manch, the venue of the Nepali Congress general convention, and come to this media center,” Bhandari said.
He also urged the media persons at home and abroad to disseminate news related to the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress to the general public.
