Rights were written in the constitution but not given to Gaganji: Resham Lal Chaudhary
Kathmandu. Resham Lal Chaudhary, founder and patron of Rastriya Janamukti Party, has said that although the constitution of Nepal has guaranteed the rights of all, these rights have not been implemented in practice.
Inaugurating the 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress here today, Chaudhary said that the Nepali Congress had played an important role in the drafting of the constitution.
He said, “The Nepali Congress played the biggest role in drafting the constitution of the country. The Congress government had liberated the Kamaiyas.” He questioned Congress President Gagan Thapa saying that although the rights of all have been written in the constitution, the status of rights has not yet been ensured.
He said, “All the leaders including the Congress party who drafted the constitution of Nepal are on this platform. Rights were written in the constitution, but Gagan ji did not give them. When will we get the rights? When will the Tharu who are written in the Constitution of Nepal reach the chair of power? When will our Tharu Chief Justice? When will there be Tharu Chief Justice?”
Chaudhary said that he is a person who trusts Gagan Thapa and the leadership should rise above the thinking of the old generation.
‘Gagan ji, you are ahead today by chance, I am a person who believes in you. Accept the pain, do not accept it. Yesterday, those who claimed to be young by graying all their hair spoiled the country, sometimes they did not show any sign of building the country even because they have moustache, full black hair,” he said.
Stating that the Nepali Congress is a historic party, Chaudhary said that the NC had waged significant political struggle from the end of the Rana regime to the Panchayat system and the 10-year people’s war. He said, “Nepali Congress is a historical party which ended the Rana regime, ended the Panchayat system and endured the People’s War for 10 years. The Nepali Congress is not limited to that.” Recalling that NC President Thapa played an important role for the republic during the 19-day people’s movement, Chaudhary said that they also participated in the movement.
He said, “During the 19-day people’s movement, Gagan Thapa was a young man who raised the slogan of republic with a shroud on his head. But Gagan ji, we also joined that movement. We also ate sticks and water cannons. “
He expressed dissatisfaction saying that his identity and religion were exchanged along with the republic during the people’s movement.
‘But a strange coincidence was missed there. Why did my religion change with the republic in that 19-day people’s movement? We want nothing to be exchanged with our identity,” he said.
Chaudhary made it clear that he would not compromise on the cultural identity and tradition of his community.
He said, “We are not going to exchange anything with our Dashain jamara and the seven-colored tika and garland that our sister wears.” ’
