Bhairahawa. Rupandehi Police have started investigation into the criminal background of 27-year-old Yubaraj Tharu alias Bishal alias Bishal, who was arrested in connection with the abduction of a 10-year-old girl from Tilottama Municipality-10.
The police have started collecting details of his criminal activities after it was found that the accused was involved in theft and indecent behavior in the past.
On the night of May 14, the girl was abducted while she was sleeping on the bed. The incident was reported to the Area Police Office, Mangalapur after the family searched around the house and in the neighborhood but could not find any trace.
As soon as the information was received, a team under the command of a police inspector reached the spot at 3 am. The scope of the operation has been widened as no clue was found till morning, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Kumar Chand, information officer of the District Police Office, Rupandehi. A team of plain clothes team from the District Police Office, Rupandehi, Lumbini Provincial Police, Area Police Office, Butwal and trained dog squad from Gautam Buddha International Airport had focused their attention on the jungle of Chakrabaha.
Chakrabaha Jungle — which has long been known as a safe haven for locals and police with criminal backgrounds.
After a continuous 38-hour intensive search in the bushes of the forest, the girl was finally found in the dense bushes of Chakrabaha forest at 5:30 pm on October 29. The police rescued the girl safely, but could not find the kidnapper.
‘Even after rescuing the girl, the police team did not return from the forest. The police continued the search and sweep operation throughout the night to prevent the kidnappers from escaping,” Chand said. Chand said that the police opened fire to bring the situation under control and prevent the accused from escaping. The bullet hit the accused in the knee and he is currently undergoing treatment at the provincial hospital.
According to Chand, information officer of the District Police Office, Rupandehi, the arrested person has an old criminal background. He was arrested in 2080 BS in a case of indecent behavior. Apart from this, he was involved in motorcycle and mobile theft and various crimes against women and children. At the local level, he was synonymous with fear.
“He is a perverted person who is attached to women and children, tortures and tortures them,” DSP Chand said, “The health check-up of the girl is being conducted. As soon as we receive the report, we will initiate the process of strict legal punishment including kidnapping and hostage.” Meanwhile, on October 3, a youth was injured when Deepak Kharel and others opened fire with a pistol in Devdaha-5. The police immediately arrested the three people involved in the incident with weapons and two rounds of bullets and started investigation.
Although the incidents of kidnapping and Devdaha firing are different, the police have pointed the needle of investigation against people with old criminal records. DSP Chand said, “The criminal background of the accused is the main focus of our investigation. We are conducting a meticulous investigation on the basis of facts and evidence regarding the past activities, the nature of the present incident and the possible connection with other crimes.”
