Dissatisfaction with political parties and leadership ignited like ‘chaff fire’ and revolted: Gagan Thapa
Kathmandu Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has said that the trend of repeating the same face in power and leadership has come on September 23 and 24.
He said that the tendency of Nepal’s politics to become like a ‘musical cheer’ has sent a message to the people that all political parties and leaders are one and all are bad. In his address to the inaugural session of the Nepali Congress’s 15th General Convention here today, Thapa said the tendency of a person who has become the Prime Minister to become the Prime Minister again, the former Prime Minister again and again and the number of ministers to join the leadership again and again has increased people’s disgust towards politics.
“It was like a musical cheer. I want to become the Prime Minister again, I want to become a leader again, I will continue to be a minister, I will not leave power,” Thapa said, “This sent a message that all parties and leaders are all the same, all are bad.” Thapa said that politics has dominated every sphere of the society and has become highly politicized from social media to public life. According to him, the tendency to view every issue from a political angle has increased in the media like Facebook and Twitter.
Thapa said that dissatisfaction with the political parties and leadership has gradually increased and has become like a ‘fire of chaff’. He said that it has affected not only any one party or leader but the entire political system and leadership.
‘This chaff fire consumed everyone at once,’ he said.
Thapa said that there has not been enough dialogue with the people about the two-thirds majority government formed by the alliance of two parties and its working style. He said that the situation of September 23 and 24 arose due to the failure of the political parties to understand the changing public sentiment and dissatisfaction in time.
‘The two-thirds majority government was formed by the two parties. Not everyone knew, due to which September 23 and 24 came,” Thapa said.
He said that the leaders and cadres of other political parties, including the Congress, were also affected by the incidents of September 2
3 and 24. He recalled that the Congress went to the special general convention to take care of itself.
‘That’s where we didn’t understand. Leaders and workers of the Congress and other parties also became victims of this. But we went to the special convention to take care of it,” he said.
He said that the Nepali Congress went to the elections after the special general convention but the results could not come in its favor. Thapa said that the NC had been facing defeat and victory in various elections in the past as well, adding that the party has now entered the phase of a new general convention.
‘Then we went to the elections, but it did not come in our favour. The Congress has won and lost many elections. Now we are in the new general convention,” he said.
Thapa said that the 15th general convention should be taken as an opportunity to take the NC forward on a new political journey by reviewing the past shortcomings. He said that the Nepali Congress should change its leadership, behavior and political working style to overcome the growing political disillusionment among the people and distrust of the parties.
