Energy Minister Shrestha has directed to make the system of paying electricity bills digitally through mobile
Kathmandu. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha has directed the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) to systematically expand the system of payment for electricity consumers.
Minister Shrestha stressed on the need of ending the situation of people standing in long queues at electricity offices to pay electricity bills in the age of information technology.
He also informed that the board of directors of the Electricity Authority has approved a plan to expand digital payments effectively. He stressed that public awareness should be brought for its effective implementation at the grassroots level.
In a discussion with the heads of the electricity division office in Hetauda, Minister Shrestha said, “Digital payment should be expanded further. I direct the division chiefs to take digital payment forward as a campaign so that it will save the time of the general public, we can also manage the cost of it and use the manpower there for other things, public awareness and focus on addressing the complaints of the customers. He said that although the graph of e-payment has increased, it is not satisfactory and people still have to stand in line.

This is a serious issue,” he said, “I have seen that in the age of information technology, now that citizens should come to pay money by standing in line, I have seen a need to increase public awareness from the NEA side.” Minister Shrestha also directed to provide timely response and information to the customers during tripping. He also directed to pay special attention to the control of electricity leakage, saying that electricity leakage is a loss to the people.
Stating that it was the responsibility to protect the power structures, Minister Shrestha directed the division chiefs not only to reconstruct the poles but also to carry out the maintenance and patrolling of the poles. Minister Shrestha also directed the Division Office Chiefs to fulfill their responsibilities by making good governance and governance reform as the main mantra of decision-making.
