Kathmandu. Women complain that they have been deprived of opportunities despite the increase in women’s participation in politics in recent times.
As the 15th general convention of the country’s oldest democratic party, the Nepali Congress, is underway in Kathmandu, women representatives from across the country have demanded equal participation with the leadership.
Nepali Congress general convention representative from Kailali constituency-1, Keshari Bista Rawal said that although women are enthusiastic about the general convention, it is still difficult for women from far-flung areas to reach the central committee due to geography and access.
She said, “Women are enthusiastic and the legislation is inclusive. But women from remote areas are still not able to come to the Central Committee. Women from remote and backward places still do not know what a convention is. “
Rawal said that many women in rural and backward areas do not yet have enough knowledge about the party’s organization and structure. She said that the women who have been working in the party organization have experience in the policy, structure and organization of the party.
She said that women should not be deprived of opportunities for long-standing organization building and political activities for nationality, democracy and socialism. Similarly, Bal Kumari Shrestha, a representative from Sindhuli, expressed happiness that the party has given priority to advancing women in the leadership in an inclusive manner. She said that women have their own important agenda and their voices should be raised from the leadership level.
Similarly, Hazari Nepali Badi, a representative from Jajarkot, said that women in Karnali are still deprived of basic access to education, health, information and communication.
She said that the situation of confining women to the kitchen should end and move forward in the political leadership. She said that although she is the only candidate representing the plaintiff community from all over the country, her candidacy could not be successful due to the internal situation within the party.
Stating that the Badi community has not yet been represented in the central committee of the NC, she said that the political representation of her community should be ensured in the coming days.
Similarly, Lalita Kumari Shah, a general convention representative from Saptari constituency-2, said that women’s political participation has been increasing significantly in recent period.
She said that in recent years, women have also started coming actively into politics as well as in journalism, business and education. She said that young women, in particular, are spontaneously entering politics after being influenced by the democratic ideology of the Congress.
Shah said that the participation of women in politics would increase in the coming days as the amended statute of the NC has ensured the representation of youths and women.
She also said that the provision of at least
one woman in the representation of youth under 35 years of age has also increased the opportunity for women to reach leadership.
According to her, although there are still some difficulties for women to join politics due to social and family reasons, women’s political participation is increasing rapidly due to the inclusive provision guaranteed by the statute.
