Rajarshi Janak University presents budget of more than Rs 51 crore

Janakpurdham. Rajarshi Janak University has presented an estimated budget of Rs 51.17 crore for the coming fiscal year 2083÷084.

According to the annual program and budget proposal presented in the senate meeting of the university, Rs 21 crore 8 lakh 95 thousand has been allocated for capital and Rs 30 crore 8 lakh 7 thousand for operation. The budget and programs have been submitted to the assembly for approval as per the provisions of the University Act, 2074.

The university has given priority to technical, professional and timely educational programs. According to the progress report of the last fiscal year 2082÷083, a total of 5,927 students are studying in the constituent and affiliated colleges of the university. The university has been conducting more than 20 educational programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Lately, nine new subjects including BIT, MCA, BA, LLB, LLM, have been started.

Under the proposed new program, the target is to enroll at least 5,000 new students in the next academic session. The university has also put forward a plan to fully implement the integrated academic calendar as per the instructions of the University Grants Commission.

‘School of Health Sciences’ has been launched to systematize technical education. The university has said that work has been started by entering into agreements with various hospitals and health institutions for practical practice for the students. The ‘learning and earning’ concept and the curriculum based on market demand have also been implemented for the meritorious students.

Giving priority to the construction of the university’s own physical infrastructures, the process of construction of modern educational buildings will be started as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR) obtained on 9 bigha and 14 kattha land acquired in Nagarain of Dhanusha.

Similarly, a proposal has been put forward to construct a Pandit Mangal Kumar Upadhyay Multiple Campus building in collaboration with the Madhes Province government in Gaur, Rautahat. The university has a plan to establish a separate constituent campus to further systematize the law programs being run in Kathmandu and to initiate the process of establishing a constituent campus of technology in Bara.

The university has stated that it will institutionalize a high-level ‘research and innovation’ body from the next fiscal year to promote academic credentials and research. A plan has also been put forward to publish research journals in two specialized genres and to organize international conferences and workshops for the promotion of Oriental philosophy, Ramayana circuit, and Mithila art and culture.

The budget also includes a proposal to organize ‘Cultural Talent Program’ for the overall development of students and the second convocation ceremony for improving the quality of education.

A policy of ‘complete digitalization’ has been put in place to make the administrative, economic and academic working system of the university technology-friendly. From the next academic session, there is a plan to integrate the Learning Management System (LMS), the Integrated Campus Management System and the information exchange system with the University Grants Commission. The university has said that examinations, admissions, human resources and accounting systems will also be taken to online and centralized format.

Meanwhile, in the meeting, Education Minister Sasmit Pokharel urged the government to develop Rajarshi Janak University as a model university that would highlight the art, culture, lifestyle and identity of Madhes Province.

He stressed on the need to add subjects related to Madhesh Province in the university curriculum and to move forward teaching and learning in a way that reflects the originality of the province. He also said that other art, culture, history, and subjects related to Mithila should also be included in the curriculum not only to Mithila painting.

The meeting also presented a proposal to amend the Rule 100 of the University Organization Structure and Management Regulation, 2075 to make the selection process of Dean more practical and wider.

In the meeting, the newly appointed members of the Executive Council, Prof. Dr. Vidyasagar Verma, Associate Prof. Saroj Kumar Thakur and Assistant Professor Rajiv Kumar Pandey have also been submitted for approval.
