Kathmandu. Dr. Dila Sangraula (Pant) has filed her candidacy for the post of Women General Secretary in the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress. Dila Sangraula (Pant) has said that transformation in the Congress is not possible until the cadres working at the grassroots level are evaluated.
Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday, Sangraula said that she has more than 40 years of experience in the organization from ward, region, district to center. She said that empowerment, energy and evaluation of cadres in the organization are her main agenda.
“Unless the workers working at the grassroots level are evaluated, there will be no transformation in the Congress,” she said.
She said that Nepal’s politics has taken a new turn after the Zenji movement and after that there is a need for a transformation within the Nepali Congress. She said that the special general convention led by Gagan Thapa has prepared the basis for change and it is taking shape in the 15th general convention.
Sangraula said that there is a need for internal good governance in the Congress and zero tolerance towards corruption in the country. She said that she has been raising the issue for a long time that the property of the leaders and employees who reached the highest level after 2046 BS should be investigated.
“I have raised this issue not only within the party, whether inside the parliament, in the streets, or in the Mechi-Mahakali Yatra, that there should be internal good governance within the party within the internal democracy,” she said.
She also said that as the national president of Nepal Women’s Association, she has continuously raised her voice against women’s empowerment, participation in leadership and discrimination and violence against women. Recalling that she had launched a campaign in 35 districts after Nirmala Panta’s rape and murder , she said that she has been continuously raising women’s issues in 35 districts. Sangraula said that she has filed her candidacy to raise women’s issues more effectively, saying that women friends have urged her to come to the leadership after the addition of the post of women general secretary.
She claimed that she could play a role as a link connecting the experienced, contemporary and younger generation. She said that she would play a role in connecting the indigenous people, women, backward classes, minorities and Muslim communities with the Congress, including the mountains, hills and Terai.
“Politics runs on experience, politics runs on agenda, politics also runs on change. People who go to the doorsteps of cadres are also evaluated. I am standing on the same page today,” she said.
Stating that there was a need to reconnect the voters lost by the NC to the party and to reach the doorsteps of the people, she claimed that the NC would be made a Congress of all under the leadership of Gagan Thapa. Responding to a query from journalists about the agenda of youths, Sangraula said that youths are looking for good governance, zero tolerance on corruption, efficient service delivery, employment and opportunities to use their skills in Nepal.
“Nepali Congress cannot be formed without taking the youths to the place of leading the country and making policies,” she said.
She said that the younger generation could not come forward due to the leadership of the same generation in the Congress for a long time and this has increased the distance between the generations. She said that she has left the teaching profession and has continuously worked in politics with the aim of advancing the youth.
‘I have taught the students, he is also a teacher, he is also a professor. I have also resigned as a professor. Why did I come? To take these students forward, to take these youths forward,” she said.
