1,100 bottles of sour were recovered from Birtamod New Bus Park

Jhapa. As many as 1,100 bottles of citrus kept for illegal production and sale at New Bus Park area of Arjundhara-11 in Jhapa district have been recovered and destroyed.

Jhapa was led by Assistant Chief District Officer Sahadev Rayamajhi on Wednesday and seized the same quantity of sour from ‘Shree Ram Amalo Bhandar’. According to the monitoring team, 1,100 bottles of sour were recovered in 21 cartons from the godown and destroyed in the presence of local police and locals. Assistant Chief District Officer Rayamajhi said that action was also taken against Umesh Raj Karki, the proprietor of Kavre, after he was found producing and selling the industry at Birtamode-11 New Bus Park using stickers of sour industry in the name of lemon acid. According to him, the materials were confiscated and destroyed after they were found to be selling and distributing sour industries without meeting the quality and safety standards.

The monitoring team also inspected various grocery and food shops in Birtamode, Arjundhara and Kankai Municipality areas. Rayamajhi said that inedible items were seized from ‘Atithi Kirana Shop’ in Kankai and destroyed and action was taken against the operators.

According to Food Officer Sagar Raj Pokharel, black pepper powder, barley flour, vegetable spices, maize rice, Kurumkurum beaten rice and other inedible items were confiscated from the grocery shop.

The monitoring team also inspected the Santosh Khanja house at Charpane Chowk in Birtamode-2 on Tuesday. The monitoring committee officer Yadunandan Dahal said that after finding inedible items, the materials were destroyed and fined.

The monitoring team comprised non-gazetted first class officer Suresh Gautam of Cottage and Small Industries Office, Bhadrapur, Food Officer Pokharel of Food and Quality Control Office, Officer Dahal of District Administration Office, Jhapa, Chairman of Consumer Awareness Campaign, Raj Kumar Oli and police representatives.

The monitoring team said that it will continue the market monitoring to stop the sale and distribution of inedible and illegal food items that can directly affect the health of consumers. The team also monitored New Sangeeta Jewellers, Gorkha Shopping Complex, Pathivara Devi Jewellers and Mahalaxmi Dairy Shop in Kankai Municipality area on Wednesday.
