Workers should be provided festival expenses equivalent to one month’s basic wage: Department

Kathmandu. The Department of Labor and Occupational Security has urged employers and establishments to provide festival allowances equal to one month’s basic salary to workers.

Issuing a press release

today, the Department has stated that according to Clause 37 of the Labour Act, 2074, every worker will get an amount equivalent to one month’s basic salary every year as festival expense for the festivals celebrated in accordance with the prevailing religion, culture and tradition.

The Department has requested the employers and establishments to provide festival allowances to the workers as per the legal provision. If the employer does not provide the festival expenses, the concerned workers can file a complaint and application at the Labour and Employment Office or the Department of Labor and Occupational Security under the jurisdiction of the employer or establishment.
