Kathmandu. The Chief of Army Staff Trophy-2083 Sports Tournament was held today under the chief guest of the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Pradeep Jung KC.
Eight disciplines were included in the competition, namely athletics, swimming, boxing, taekwondo, volleyball, basketball, football and judo. A total of 14 teams participated in the competition.
Shree Valley Division won the first position in the overall category of the competition while Shree Purano Gorakh Battalion won the first position in the battalion.
Acting Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen KC and other contingents presented trophies, certificates and letter of appreciation to the winners, best players and referees.
Athletes have set new records in various categories in the tournament organized with the objective of producing national and international level players and contributing to the development of national sports.
New military records have been set in women’s 200-meter race, 5,000-meter race, long jump, javelin throw and shot put, men’s 100-meter race, 4×400-meter run and marathon.
Similarly, Shri Purano Gorakh Gana B. K. C. Saleen Dewan won the men’s long jump and Kali Raksha Battalion (E) won the women’s long jump. Jayarani Tharu has set a new national record in the women’s 400 meters race.
The tournament is expected to contribute to the development of sports within the Nepal Army, identify talented players and contribute to the national sports.
