Quality content and advance information are necessary to increase the effectiveness of news agencies
Kathmandu. Speakers of a program said that the role and importance of news agencies is increasing in Nepal. In the ‘News Dialogue’ program organized by Nepal News Bank News Agency in Kathmandu on Saturday, people associated with media have pointed out the increasing relevance of news agencies.
President Ram Chandra Poudel’s press advisor Kiran Pokharel said that the importance of news agencies has increased at a time when it has become increasingly difficult to sustain the media due to financial and other challenges. He said that in such a situation, the demand for news agencies like Nepal News Bank is increasing.
Pokharel said the lack of human resources in the media was increasing and it was becoming difficult to collect and publish news on all subjects.
He stressed on the need for news agencies to provide specific and quality content and not just general information to attract the media. He said that it would be difficult to attract media to buy the agency’s materials by providing only general information at a time when citizen journalism is developing. He said, “Now Nepal’s media is facing financial and various challenges. It is becoming difficult to sustain. In such a situation, the demand for news agencies like Nepal News Bank is increasing. But when citizen journalism is being established, it is difficult to sell the agency’s content by giving only general information.
Therefore, to attract the media, news agencies should provide specific, quality and competitive content. He said that the notion that all media should depend on news agencies is not appropriate. He said that although the role of the agency is important in providing content covering various fields and topics to the media which is short of manpower, it should not be appropriate for the media to expect breaking news from the agency.
He said, “I am not satisfied that all the media should depend on the news agency. When there is a shortage of manpower, it is the role of the agency to provide news content of various sectors and topics. But it is not so fair to question why the media did not come breaking news by relying on the agency. Rewati Prasad Sapkota, Rewati Prasad Sapkota, Registrar of Communications of Bagmati Province, said that the service seekers of news agencies would expect breaking news as well as advance information about developing news.
He said that if the agency could provide timely information about what is happening about a news story and what form it might take, it would be easier for the newsrooms of the media to plan and prepare the news.
He said, “The service recipients of the news agency are also looking for advance information about which news is being developed along with the information of breaking news. If the agency can provide timely information about the news being prepared, then the newsroom can also adapt it and prepare the news.” “
Sapkota said that although there is a compulsion to collect news in some cases, it is difficult to find new facts or angles of news on the subject. He said that in such a situation, the information and materials provided by the news agencies would help the media.
