What does Dayahang think of ‘Kazi’?

Kathmandu. Actor Dayahang Rai is known as an artist who brings Nepali film actors as well as characters to life.

Rai, who started his acting career with the theater, established himself among the audience through films like ‘Loot’ and ‘Kabaddi’. He succeeded in establishing a new definition of ‘hero’ by breaking the traditional belief that one must have a good body, tall stature and beauty.

In a crowd of actors acting through neat faces, dry costumes, dance and conflict, Rai started a different style by reducing the physical distance from the audience.

The role of Kazi played by him in ‘Kabaddi’ is popular among the audience. Actor Rai believes that the reason why the audience likes these characters is that they can relate to their own lives even outside the screen.

‘The actors seen in those films were the characters found in the neighborhood and the neighborhood. The audience found themselves there. That’s why those characters were able to connect easily with the audience. So those characters are also in my mind, I sometimes imagine what those characters think and what they must have changed over time. Those characters are close to me,” said actor Rai.

At the time of the establishment of Mandala Theatre, director Rambabu Gurung had announced the plan to make ‘Kabaddi’. After liking the idea presented in the discussion for the film, it was planned to make the film with director Nischal Basnet along with Dayahang.

‘Even though we did not have enough money, we decided to make a film by joining. The story of ‘Kabaddi’ was new, it introduced a new genre. We were able to benefit from it commercially as well,” said actor Rai.

He plays the role of Kazi in the film. Even though he loves his Soltini very much, Kazi does not know the way to express love. For this reason, he had to face various obstacles. The series of films kept increasing, the number of viewers kept increasing. Along with the domestic market, the film also made its audience in the diaspora. However, the obstacles in love with Kazi increased with the series.

Rai says that ‘Kabaddi’ can be considered as a film based on a love story. “Kabaddi is the story of a character named Kazi who falls in love with each other. He loves the person he likes sincerely, but he cannot find a way to express love. This is the reason why the audience found humor in his style. There are people who love like this. The character of Kaji has emerged as a result of our efforts to do different things from the regular ones,” said actor Rai.

The fourth series of ‘Kabaddi’ was prepared as ‘Final Match’. The audience also took it as the last series. Its impact was also seen at the box office. The film managed to make a gross collection of about Rs 24 crore in Nepal alone. However, director Rambabu Gurung has prepared a new series of ‘Kabaddi’ named ‘After the Final Match’. The film is going to be released on October 23, targeting Dashain.

Director Gurung says that the reason for making the new series is the love and expectation of the audience. “The audience is emotionally connected with the characters we have created. Not only we but the audience also loves those characters.

But this is not the reason for the new series. During the discussion, we came across a story and the fifth series was made, “said director Gurung.

Actor Rai also wants to bring Kazi to the audience in a different form. He wants to bring Kazi’s youth as well as the time, environment and psychology of old age on the screen.

‘We saw Kazi’s youth, his honesty towards love. But with time, that character also changes. When he gets a responsibility and matures, what does he do, what is his nature? I want to live with that environment and time,” said actor Rai.

Director Gurung also agrees with actor Rai’s opinion. He also wants to bring the character of ‘Kabaddi’ to the screen in a different form.

‘Like Dayaji said, I also want to show the maturity of those characters. But for that, the characters have to reach a certain age. After that, the psychology that has changed along with the outer appearance of the character can be depicted on the screen,” said director Gurung.

He has not ruled out the possibility of producing the next series of ‘Kabaddi’. However, he wants to bring the series to the audience at a certain time interval.
