Kathmandu. It is estimated that it will take another five to seven days to complete the counting of votes under the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress.
Central Election Officer Tulsiram Parajuli said that the vote counting took time due to the large number of clusters, large number of candidates and the number of ballot papers. Giving information about the counting of votes going on at the party office in Sanepa, Parajuli said that the target is to complete the counting of votes for the post of vice-president and general secretary by tomorrow. He also informed that preparations are being made for the counting of votes for the post of joint general secretary.
He said, “The 15th central election of the Nepali Congress has just concluded and we are busy counting the votes at the Sanepa party office. Since the Congress itself is a democratic party, many clusters were placed. Therefore, there is a delay in the counting of votes. Officially, it is not possible to say that it will take 5 to 7 days. According to him, the counting of votes for the post of president was completed on the same day as the election and the results were made public. After that, there was some delay in starting the counting of votes for other office-bearers due to technical preparations and posts. At present, the counting of votes for the post of vice-president and general secretary is going on.
Parajuli said that preparations are underway to mobilize more manpower and increase the number of vote counting centres to speed up the counting of votes. He said that the counting of votes will continue throughout the night by making necessary arrangements.
Parajuli said that 23 ballot papers were used for various posts and inclusion groups, from the president to the 15th general convention of the Congress. He said that this time the election process has been further expanded as the Genji generation i. e. youth below 35 years of age and professional experts group have also been represented.
He said that more than
89 candidates are in the fray for 45 posts under the open central member category, so the vote counting will take more time.
According to him, the number of people leaving the Kathmandu Valley for home has increased in view of the approaching Dashain festival and the vote counting is being intensified to make it easier for the candidates and general public to know the results soon. He also urged the media and the general public to be patient with the delay in the vote counting and to be patient until the results are declared.
