Kathmandu. The book ‘From Gender to Human Nature’ written by Sunil Babu Pant, an activist who has been studying and researching gender and sexual diversity, has been released. The book was released amidst a program organized in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Speaking at the book launch program, leader Dr. Binda Pandey said that Panta has made significant contribution to establish the identity of gender and sexual minority in the constitution. Recalling that the issue of identity and rights of gender and sexual minority was intensively discussed in the Constituent Assembly (CA), she said it would be difficult to incorporate this issue in the constitution without Panta’s active involvement.
“If Sunil ji was not in the constitution, it would not have been written, I guarantee a hundred percent,” she said, “After writing identity in the constitution, it is a very good thing that this book has come in terms of how to take it to the general public.” She expressed the belief that the book will help in changing the way gender and sexual minorities are viewed in Nepali society.
Stating that the subject of the third nature should be understood positively in the oriental philosophy, she said that the historical and cultural aspects of one’s own society should also be included in the modern education system. In the program, the author of the book, Pant, asked to give an open response about the shortcomings in the book. He said that the suggestions received from the readers will help in making the upcoming edition more refined.
“Leave a little formality and give bittersweet feedback on a personal basis, so that you can hope that the weaknesses will be minimized when writing another edition or other topic,” he said.
Pant thanked Shikha Books for publishing the book, Sushil Rijal for his editing and various people who contributed to this campaign.
He was the then Speaker of the Constituent Assembly, Subash Chandra Nembang, Dr. He recalled that the support of Binda Pandey and others had played an important role in establishing the constitutional identity of gender and sexual minority.
According to him, the book will help in understanding issues related to gender, sexuality and human nature. He believes that the book can be a useful resource for teachers, trainers, policy makers and the general public, especially in the education sector.
Pant also stressed on the need to study the goddesses, Puranas, festivals and historical characters of Nepali society from the perspective of women’s rights and human development. He said that while discussing western philosophy and theory, the historical and cultural contribution of Nepali society should not be ignored. He said that he has already produced a documentary titled ‘Azima and the 6 Types of Gender Identity’ and is preparing to bring another book on understanding women, society and humanity from the motherly cultural perspective in the coming days. Pant said that there is a plan to prepare an English version of the book and it could be developed as a useful resource for the study of gender and sexuality at the national and international level.
