Oli urges people to get involved in rescue and relief of Budhi Gandaki flood affected
Criticizing the government for disaster management, Oli said that it could not even form an all-party committee
Kathmandu. CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has urged the party leaders and cadres to involve in rescue, relief, reconstruction and rehabilitation of the people affected by the floods in Budhigandaki River in Gorkha district.
Addressing the Mission Party Awareness Campaign and a gathering of leading cadres, Chairman Oli expressed sorrow over the loss of life and property due to the floods. He urged the party leaders, cadres, members of the people’s class, professional and community organizations to be active in rescue and relief work in the disaster-affected areas.
“Another calamity is coming today due to floods in Budhigandaki. Some houses have been swept away, some people have gone missing and there has been a lot of damage,” he said, “I would like to request all the leaders and cadres of the party to get involved in rescue and relief work in this time of disaster and help in reconstruction and rehabilitation as per the need.” Oli said that the government’s role in disaster management is the main and urged the government to make the rescue and relief works effective. He also drew the attention of the government to prevent the recurrence of such problems during the Budhi Gandaki floods, blaming the lack of weakness in rescue and relief works in Bhotekoshi and Trishuli areas in the past.
He said, “It is the duty of the government the most. Therefore, when there were floods in Bhotekoshi and Trishuli earlier, the government did not control helicopters, misuse them and do relief and rescue work on time. I want to urge the government not to repeat such things this time.” He said that the government should move forward with a broad vision in rescue and relief work. He criticized the government for not being able to build an all-party mechanism during the disaster and also questioned the mobilization of government helicopters and relief distribution.
Chairman Oli blamed that the foreign aid could not be properly utilized during the past disasters and the delay in accepting the aid has hampered the rescue operations.
He said, “The government should move forward in the rescue work with a broad heart and broadness. The government could not even show the broadness of forming an all-party committee. How narrow-minded, narrow-mindedness it showed. The government helicopter was like the private property of an organization, as if it had never been able to board a helicopter and it was like getting an opportunity to board it. Foreign aid could not be utilized properly. If it is not accepted on time, it can be considered that many citizens have lost their lives due to the lack of unnecessary rescue operations. He said that the government should take effective steps to prevent the recurrence of the situation of citizens losing their lives due to lack of timely rescue.
He also urged the government to carry out works keeping rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by the Budhi Gandaki floods in priority.
