Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyan Bahadur Shahi has demanded that the Prime Minister himself be present in the discussion on the government’s policies and programmes.

Accusing the Prime Minister of trying to evade responsibility by evading the parliament, he said that he strongly objected to this.

Talking to media persons outside the Parliament House, leader Shahi clarified that it was the responsibility of the Prime Minister to present the policies and programmes of the government in the parliament and answer the questions raised. He argued that the issue of the Prime Minister holding a meeting of the Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar but not being able to come to the parliament and face the questions of the people’s representatives is serious. Shahi portrayed the absence of the prime minister as an insult not only to the ruling party and the opposition but also to the entire sovereign parliament.

He also urged the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) to be serious on this issue, reminding it of the past precedent. Recalling that the RSP had protested the absence of the then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the past, Shahi called on all political parties to seek accountability in the present situation as well. Stating that the Prime Minister was trying to evade Parliament, he reiterated his stance that the Prime Minister could not run away from accountability under any pretext. Stating that the meeting was adjourned for 15 minutes in the absence of the Prime Minister, he said the future course of action would be decided after discussions.
