Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Traffic Police took action against 1,962 drivers and road violators in the Kathmandu Valley in the last 24 hours. According to the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Rs 889,000 revenue has been collected from this action.

According to the Traffic Police, increasing traffic congestion, haphazard parking, careless operation and ignorance of traffic rules have contributed to the increasing risk of road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley.

Regular checking, monitoring and special campaign have been launched to control it.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Naresh Raj Subedi, the highest number of those facing action are 905 traffic violators.

Similarly, 102 drivers were impounded for drunk driving and 147 were taken for violating ride-sharing rules.

Similarly, 211 drivers were taken for breaching red light, 197 for speeding, 53 for encroaching lane, 88 for encroaching on road and footpath, 116 for violating no-horn zone and 143 for one-way traffic violation.

SP Subedi said the main objective of the traffic police is not only to collect revenue but also to make citizens responsible to traffic rules.

“The traffic police are continuously mobilized to reduce the traffic rule violations and road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley”, he added. Our aim is not only to raise revenue, but also to ensure safe travel for our citizens and reduce road accidents. ‘

According to him, although there has been a slight decrease in the traffic rule violation in recent period, the monitoring has been tightened as many drivers are found not following even the basic rules.

Specifically

, drunkenness, speeding, driving with mobile phones and violating signals would lead to accidents, the statement said.

Traffic management has become more challenging as thousands of vehicles ply daily in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to officials, road expansion, increase in the number of vehicles and maintaining traffic discipline along with the pressure of passengers are the biggest challenges for the police.

Traffic police have urged drivers to obey traffic rules, wear helmets and seat belts, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol and respect road signals.

Special traffic checking campaign will be continued throughout the Valley in the coming days as well.
