Kathmandu. CPN-UML lawmaker Ain Mahar drew the attention of the government towards the fact that the local people of Bajhang district are compelled to live in darkness despite the production of sufficient hydropower in the district. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Mahar apprised the House of Representatives about the poor condition of electricity and communication services in Bajhang.
He said, “Honorable Prime Minister Balen Shah went to Bajhang as a tourism ambassador to promote tourism in my home district Bajhang before the elections held on March 4 and stayed in Bijgada of Bungal Municipality of Bajhang.” On the night he was staying, there was a storm. The power also went out. The next day, the network and phone network did not work. I am saying this here because when there is a storm in Bajhang district, the phone network does not work, and electricity does not come for a few days. ’
Lawmaker Mahar said that although more than 70 megawatts of electricity is generated in Bajhang and connected to the national grid, more than 40 percent of the people of the district are still deprived of electricity and are forced to live in darkness. “Sufficient electricity is being produced in Bajhang, but the local people are living in darkness,” he said.
He has strongly urged the government to construct a substation in Bajhang immediately and make communication services easy to resolve the problem. He also drew the government’s attention to resolving the problems of electricity and communication services and to create an environment for the people of Bajhang to live in light.
