Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) lawmaker Khusbu Oli has drawn the attention of the House towards poor condition of the garbage management project being run in Kankai municipality of Jhapa.

Taking special time in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, she expressed serious concern that the project constructed with the investment of millions of rupees has now turned into a scrap house.

According to lawmaker Oli, the project was constructed in the name of ‘Kankai Birta Arjun Renewable Energy and Waste Women Management Company Limited’ in Kankai Municipality-2.

More than Rs 210 million has already been invested in the project with the financial participation of the three municipalities, the World Bank and 745 consumers with the support of alternative energy.

However, she claimed that the project has not been able to produce biogas worth Rs 400 a day. “There is rampant corruption, machinery and materials for the project have been stolen,” she said.

Lawmaker Oli blamed that the project was constructed without conducting a feasibility study near the Sanka River. He argues that the current state of the project, which was constructed without studying, proves that there is a big irregularity.

Drawing the government’s attention to the incident, Oli urged the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) to carry out a serious investigation into the matter.
