Kathmandu. Member of the House of Representatives, Mahabir Pun, has drawn the attention of the government to immediately mobilize the amount deposited in the Rural Telecommunication Fund for the expansion of communication services in the rural areas. Taking special time in the meeting of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, lawmaker Pun said that the rural people have been deprived of communication facilities as the government has not been able to spend billions of rupees in the fund.
According to lawmaker Pun, there is currently around Rs 16 billion deposited in the Rural Telecommunication Fund under the Nepal Telecommunication Authority. The fund was collected by deducting 2 percent of the amount paid by the service recipients for the use of telephone since 2053 BS. Pun also demanded removal of the new taxi registration process in the Kathmandu Valley, saying syndicate has flourished.
According to him, around 7,500 taxis were registered in 2057 BS and only 9,000 taxis are in operation after the 2015 earthquake.
Accusing the government of deliberately stopping new registrations, Pun urged the government to increase the number of taxis and provide opportunities to the citizens who want to become self-employed.
