Kathmandu. CPN-UML Chief Whip Ain Mahar has said that Prime Minister Balen Shah’s statement in the parliament that Nepal has encroached on many parts of India is anti-national, anti-national and irresponsible. Speaking at an interaction with reporters on parliamentary affairs on Thursday, Mahar said no prime minister of a sovereign country would say that his own country has encroached on another country’s land.
Claiming that the statement amounted to betrayal to the country and people, he demanded that the words of the Prime Minister be removed from the parliamentary record.
“Nepal’s statement that it has encroached on many parts of India is anti-national and anti-national. In a way, it was a betrayal of the country and the people. That was our conclusion. It was a serious matter. So far, not only our country but the Prime Minister of any sovereign country of the world has not said that his country has encroached on the land of another country. Therefore, he put this anti-national, anti-national and irresponsible idea in the House. Therefore, his demand is that those words should be removed from the parliamentary record. ’
Stating that it was the responsibility of the Prime Minister and Speaker to maintain the dignity of the parliament, Mahar said failure to do so would raise questions on the functioning and legitimacy of the parliament. Stating that the agenda of the parliament should be forwarded only after taking a clear decision on the controversial statement, he said that the UML has protested in the parliament on this issue.
“If the Prime Minister and the Speaker cannot maintain the dignity of the House, it will raise questions about the longevity of the House as it will continue to function in the House,” he said. It is a matter of whether this House will go in this way or not. That’s why we protested that we should move forward with this decision. ’
