Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) has urged the government to immediately stop making preparations to cut off power supply to industries operating in industrial areas and arrest industrialists. Issuing a press release on Thursday, the Federation said that serious attention has been drawn towards the preparation of disconnecting power lines and arresting industrialists by using administrative force against around 700 industries in 10 industrial zones operated by Industrial Area Management Limited under the Government of Nepal.
According to the FNCCI, the dispute regarding the rent hike of the industrial area is sub-judice at the Supreme Court and High Court. According to the federation, it is against the principle of rule of law and business etiquette to restrict the industrialists to pay their dues by giving them a short seven-day deadline at a time when the Industrial Area Management Limited has already filed a case in the court for review of the matter as per the decision of the Board of Directors.
The federation has said that it would not be appropriate to create mental pressure affecting the operation of the industry when the clear details of the fare rate have not been provided by the industrialists even when they have demanded it.
Stating that it was the primary responsibility of the state to encourage and protect the productive industries at a time when the economy is sluggish, the federation has said that it is also the responsibility of the Industrial Area Management Limited to support and facilitate the smooth operation of the industries.
The statement warned that disconnecting the power lines of the industries and halting production and shutting down the industries would weaken the morale of the domestic investors and discourage domestic and foreign investment.
The federation has also urged the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies and Industrial Area Management Limited to immediately stop all activities that threaten industries and obstruct production flow.
The FNJ has also urged all sides concerned to seek a scientific and practical solution to the land lease dispute only through dialogue and consensus respecting the legal process.
