Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Vice-President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSS) and Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle has said that a system has been developed in Nepal to make it difficult for honest people to enter politics while it is easier for those with access to power to succeed. Inaugurating the first general convention of the party in Chitwan on Sunday, PM Oli said the state has promoted a culture of distributing rather than creation, control over competition and protecting access rather than opportunity.
According to him, the RSP was moving ahead with the goal of making Nepal victorious through radical political reforms by establishing conscience, rule and rule based governance, meritocracy and citizen-centred democracy.
“It is difficult for honest people to enter politics, but it is easy for those who have access to it to succeed,” he said. It was difficult to innovate in business, but it was easy to get close to the power center. The culture of sharing rather than creating, controlling rather than increasing competition, protecting access rather than expanding opportunities was developed. Therefore, our political objective is not just a campaign to change the government, but a campaign to change the political culture. We want to move towards prudence and rule based governance. We want to move from division to meritocracy. We want to move towards citizen-centric democracy. We have come to make Nepal victorious rather than defeating anyone through the politics of radical reforms. We have not come to fight with the old generation, but to establish a new political culture. ’
According to him, the desire for change turned into rebellion after the bridge of trust between the citizens and the state started breaking down and the RSP was established as its democratic voice.
He said although the past movements had laid the foundation for democracy, constitution and inclusion in Nepal, the institutional quality of democracy was not developing as per the expectation.
According to him, although the elections were held regularly, the accountability remained weak, the institutions could not be strengthened despite the promulgation of the constitution, and the capacity of the state could not be expanded despite the size of the state.
Stating that the party was now in the journey of transformation into an institutional political force from the phase of agitation, he said the new generation should demonstrate the capacity to answer questions, govern and give results.
Stating that the RSP has envisioned liberal democracy, competitive economy, equitable society and capable state, he stressed that the talent, capacity and hard work of the citizens should be base for success.
He was of the view that the compelling of youths to go abroad in search of opportunities would end, Nepal in which farmers and workers could live a dignified life and entrepreneurs should invest confidently.
