Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has said the publicity made linking the attempt of self-immolation by Ganesh Nepali in front of the Passport Department at Tripureshwor to the traffic fine is baseless and misleading. Issuing a press release today, the Traffic Police Office, Ram Shah Path, clarified that the traffic action has nothing to do with the case of Ganesh Nepali, 25, of Soru Rural Municipality-1, Mugu who attempted self-immolation in front of the Department of Passport on July 10.

“The report that the traffic police did not impose any fine on the Nepalis in course of the incident and that they attempted self-immolation due to the traffic action is completely false,” reads the statement.

“We would like to make it clear that the traffic police have not imposed any fine on him in course of the incident and the preliminary investigation has nothing to do with the traffic action,” the statement reads.

Police said they are investigating the exact cause of the incident through the concerned investigating officer. Police have urged the public to be cautious about such content, saying publicizing issues that are not officially confirmed by linking them to the security agencies would create confusion among the public.

The Traffic Police has urged the media, social media users and the general public not to disseminate imaginary and misleading news until the objective conclusion is drawn from the investigation.
