. KATHMANDU: The Startup Summit Nepal-2026 has been formally inaugurated with an aim to promote the culture of entrepreneurship, innovation, self-reliant economy and job creation in Nepal.
The national campaign was launched through a special program organized at the Central Library Hall of Tribhuvan University.
Innovation, research, technology, and startups are considered to be the basis of economic prosperity in the developed countries of the world.
Many of the world’s most successful companies were once started by young people with a simple idea, a small investment, and a big dream.
Today, these startups have created millions of jobs and strengthened the country’s economy. The Startup Summit Nepal-2026 campaign has been initiated with the objective of developing an entrepreneurial culture based on innovation in Nepal.
The campaign has been launched with the goal of utilizing the creativity, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the youths in the country by transforming the growing brain drain into brain gain, providing practical and factual information on startups, business registration process, business plan making, startup loan, investment management, market expansion, challenges and risk management, and the potential of national and international markets to students, youths, entrepreneurs and business aspirants across the country.
The goal is to do it.
The first phase of
the program has been started from Tribhuvan University. The organizers said that such programs will be organized in universities, colleges, schools and all seven provinces of the country including Kathmandu University in the coming days.
The initiative aims to create an environment of collaboration among the government, universities, private sector, banks & financial institutions, industrialists, entrepreneurs, investors, and youths to build a strong startup ecosystem in Nepal. The program was attended by around
200 people including students, professors, employees, industrialists and businessmen, media persons and representatives of various sectors.
The chief guest of the program was the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University, Prof. Dr.
Bhola Thapa pointed out the need to link university education with entrepreneurship and not only employment-oriented but also the start-up system in the campaign to make Nepal prosperous.
He said, “Such programs should not be limited to Tribhuvan University alone.
It needs to be operated across the country. We are always ready for any cooperation required by the university. Making students creative, research-oriented and entrepreneurial is the need of the hour, and universities will play their role effectively. Shobha Gyawali, chairperson of the program and chair of Startup Summit Nepal-2026, called for all stakeholders to unite to convert the growing youth migration in Nepal into an opportunity.
“Our biggest challenge today is brain drain,” she said.
Now it has to be converted into brain gain. There is no dearth of talent, potential and creativity in Nepal. What is needed is the right thinking, the right guidance and the right opportunity. The objective of our campaign is to create an environment for youths to create opportunities in Nepal itself, not to seek opportunities abroad. Stating that the Startup Summit Nepal-2026 has officially kicked off from today, she said that the Startup Summit Nepal-2026 will be imparted in all seven provinces and 77 districts of the country in the coming days to provide practical training on startups, innovations, business operation, global market experience, stories of successful entrepreneurs, investment opportunities and government policies.
Stating that a new campaign of start-ups has begun in Nepal, she urged all youths, educational institutions, government bodies, and the private sector to join hands in this campaign. The special guest and keynote speaker of the program, Engineer Umesh Kumar Gupta Rauniyar, former executive director of Industrial Business Development Foundation, said that the basis of successful business is not big capital, but right thinking, willpower and continuous hard work.
Presenting a detailed working paper on company registration to business operations, legal process, market study, investment management and startup loans, he said, “Money is necessary, but more important is the right mindset.”
Many of the world’s most successful enterprises have started with small investments. It is very easy to become a successful entrepreneur if you can develop skills, experience and confidence in your student life. The special guest of the program was Prof. Dr. Vivek Oberoi, Department of Management, Tribhuvan University. Stating that such programs are very necessary in educational institutions, Bharat Thapa expressed commitment that the university would cooperate in running such programs in the future as well.
The program was attended by successful Nepali startup entrepreneurs.
Likewise, an inspirational documentary was screened by Nepali entrepreneurs who returned home from foreign employment and established successful businesses using startup loan. According to the organizers, the documentary has instilled enthusiasm and confidence among the participating students and youths.
