Those who say
province has no relevance are anti-federalism: Shankar Pokhrel
Ramechhap. CPN-UML Secretary Shankar Pokhrel has said that the ideology spread against the provincial government is against federalism.
Talking to journalists associated with Press Chautari Nepal Ramechhap in Manthali on Friday, he claimed that the expenditure has increased due to the state.
“The perception spread against the provincial government is against federalism, it is said that the expenditure has increased due to the provinces, which is very wrong,” he said.
According to him, the state government is the government that spends the most capital among the three tiers of government.
“The narrative being created that the government that makes the highest capital expenditure is not useful and that it is inevitable to make more general expenditure,” he said.
Talking to journalists, Pokharel clarified that the province is the main factor in federalism.
“If there is no province, there is no federalism, or if federalism is wrong, we should accept the role of the province,” Pokharel said.
He also said that the province is the most victim of Nepal’s political instability.
According to him, the people have become frustrated due to the many changes in the government.
According to him, Pokharel had collaborated with the NC to ensure stability in the state government, but the current situation has arisen due to the NC quitting.
He said that this situation arose after the Chief Minister expelled the UML ministers in the place led by the Congress.
He said that although the UML is still in favour of the provincial government along with the Congress and the NCP, the NC is not ready to join the government with the three parties.
He, however, reminded that the NC was leading the Madhes province in alliance with three parties.
Stating that the people are in favour of stability, he said that the UML should also address this issue.
He said that he had suggested to party chairman KP Sharma Oli that it would be better to retain the incumbent chief minister and party leader.
Stating that no other political party has the kind of strength that the CPN-UML has, he stressed the need to use this strength again in favour of the country’s interest. He claimed that the CPN-UML was the only force that could face the challenges facing the country. He said that the parties should be strong again to protect democracy, country and constitution.
“For this, we have to do two things: to boost the morale of the cadres and to lift up the broken trust of the people,” he said.
Pokharel also clarified that the party restructuring campaign was not the campaign of any particular person.
He believes that this is in the interest of the party and the movement. He stressed on the need of reforming the party, strengthening the organization and pulling the party out of the status quo to strengthen the party ideologically and politically.
He claimed that although the present government appeared to have come with preparations in the beginning, it has been a complete failure in the last one hundred days.
Stating that the government has not been able to fulfill the promises made before the people, he said there was a risk of people becoming disillusioned with the system due to the government.
