. The meeting of the Infrastructure Development Committee under the House of Representatives discussed the issue of delay in the management of electricity distribution line and electric poles affecting road construction.
On the occasion, Minister
for Energy, Water Resources and Energy, Water Resources and Energy, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said that the demand for electricity has increased significantly.
“The data shows that there have been relatively few power outages (load tripping and supply disruptions) this year and that there has been a quicker response to the problem,” he said. According to Minister Shrestha, although the electricity demand has increased by around 15 percent since 1992, there has not been the required level of expansion and improvement in the distribution system and infrastructure.
This is the reason why the pressure on the distribution system is increasing, he said.
‘Looking at the data, there has been relatively little light this year and we have responded quickly to problem solving. The demand for electricity has increased by about 15 percent since 2014. But there has not been much improvement in the distribution system,” he said.
Stating that the incumbent government has prioritized the power transmission system, he pledged to expedite the expansion of transmission line in the days ahead.”This time, the government and the ministry have given maximum priority to broadcasting infrastructure, concluding that we need a good transmission line,” Minister Shrestha said. Minister Shrestha clarified that the shortage of transformers was due to delay in the previous procurement process.
He, however, said that the supply of electricity meters is gradually improving.
Minister Shrestha also informed about the expansion of transmission line under Marsyangdi corridor and said that the Markichowk-Anptari transmission line has already been charged. According to him, the transmission line has been expanded up to Anptari in Tanahun by coordinating with the Ministry.
The project is expected to stabilize electricity supply to Chitwan, Hetauda, Butwal and Kohalpur areas.
According to him, the problem persists in Chitwan as the transmission line has not reached up to the new Anptari substation.
He said that there is problem in power supply as the old Bharatpur transmission line is more than 70 percent loaded.
