Progressive Front will give priority to equality and social justice: Janardan Sharma
Kathmandu A ‘Progressive Front’ has been announced with the participation of various political parties.
Presenting the concept paper of the Madhesi Front, Chief Leader of the Progressive Democratic Party (Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party) Janardan Sharma said that the Progressive Front has been formed as a common front of political forces giving priority to equality, independence, good governance, federalism, social justice, inclusion, secularism, economic development and socio-economic transformation. Presenting the concept paper, Sharma said that the objective of the UDMF is to fight relentlessly for political, social and economic changes as well as for ethnic, gender and class liberation by uniting the oppressed, oppressed and marginalized communities.
“The Progressive Front is a common front of political forces prioritizing equality, freedom, good governance, federalism, social justice, inclusion, secularism and economic development and prosperity as well as socio-economic transformation,” he said.
He pledged to accept Nepal’s multilingual, multi-national, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious diversity as the nation’s strength.
According to him, the concept of ‘diversity within unity’ would be forwarded by strengthening mutual harmony among diversity and national unity.
“Our aim is to bind diversity within unity to strengthen mutual harmony and national unity considering Nepal’s multilingual, multi-national, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-religious diversity as the strength of the nation,” he said.
According to him, the UDMF has set a target to end injustice, exploitation, discrimination and inequality against the excluded and marginalized communities including Madhesi, indigenous nationalities, Dalits, women, Tharus, Tharus, Muslims, backward classes, oppressed castes and gender and sexual minority, persons with disabilities.
He added that the concept paper has been enshrined in the concept paper to institutionalize inclusive democracy by ensuring participation in all sectors of the state and just and proportional representation by recognizing the national and ethnic identity of such communities.
The UDMF has also pledged to build a society based on equal participation, equal opportunities, equal rights, equal respect and justice by ending all forms of discrimination on the basis of caste, ethnicity, class, color, gender, language, religion, region or community.”Our aim is to build a just, inclusive and discriminatory society based on equal opportunity, mutual respect, social and economic justice and human dignity by ending all forms of discrimination on the basis of caste, ethnicity, class, color, gender, language, religion, region or community,” Sharma said.
The UDMF has pledged to put an end to the system of discrimination, untouchability and exploitation based on birth and lay emphasis on socio-cultural transformation.
Progressive Front has a provision to have national, provincial, district and metropolis-sub-metropolitan level committees. It is stated in the concept paper that the morcha committees can be formed at other levels and levels by taking decision of the national level committees as per the need.
Similarly, a separate front of youth, women and intellectual organizations can be formed and mobilized. Political parties and organizations committed to the objectives of the Front can become members.
Member parties will be allowed to maintain their independent political existence, organizational structure and identity.
However, the member parties will have to accept the Front’s Common Minimum Program and respect the Front’s decision and code of conduct.
The leadership or coordinator of the Morcha will be elected on the basis of consensus. If necessary, the system of rotational leadership could also be adopted.
The tenure of the
leadership will be for a fixed period and will be determined by mutual consent.
Arrangements have been made to make decisions of the Front unanimously as far as possible and if there is no consensus, the decision will be taken according to the democratic process and procedure. The constituent parties of the UDMF have publicly pledged not to act against the common decision of the UDMF and to resolve any disputes through mutual understanding and consensus. The Progressive Front has said that it will formulate a common strategy in the upcoming elections and participate jointly as per the need.
It is also mentioned in the concept paper that the movement, people’s struggle and people’s livelihood campaigns will be conducted jointly. The UDMF has a plan to forge joint initiatives by forging common views on political, economic and social issues of national importance.
