The 15th general convention of the Nepali Congress should be fair and participatory

Kathmandu. Nepali Congress leader and former Finance Minister Dr. KATHMANDU — Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has said the party’s 15th general convention should be held in a fair and transparent manner with the participation, ownership and respect of all sides.

Speaking at a discussion programme on the party’s national gathering on Sunday, leader Mahat said that the upcoming 15th general convention should move ahead by taking all sides on board. He said that the Election Commission recognized the other side without listening to their side and the situation that arose after that put the party in a very difficult situation. He said that the party did not have enough time as the issue related to candidacy and ticket distribution had to be finalized by the court as well.

He said, “The Election Commission recognized the other side without listening to our side. In the meantime, the court also decided that there should be no problem in the distribution of tickets in the general elections. We didn’t have time. We went for the election by accepting the decision taken by the leadership in such a difficult situation. There was no time, no time to think of alternatives. The incident of September 23-24 had to defeat the person who was supposed to become the Prime Minister. “

Mahat stressed the need for a clear provision and impartiality on issues related to active membership, representative selection, election process, statute and discipline to make the 15th general convention fair.

He clarified that the issue raised by them regarding the special general convention should be held as a temporary arrangement and the participation of all in the 15th general convention should be ensured. Meanwhile, Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh said the 15th general convention should be held by resolving the disputes in the party on the basis of consensus.

Speaking at a programme organized on the occasion of the national gathering, leader Singh said the NC had the practice of holding general convention by resolving the problems on the basis of consensus since the past.

Singh said that the gathering to be organized by the supporters of the regular general convention should be focused on moving ahead by uniting the party. He expressed the view that the working committee that came from the special general convention should take initiatives to resolve the disputes within the party.

On the occasion, leader Bhimsen Das Pradhan said the country would face disaster if party unification was not done.

At a time when there was a dispute in the party over the issue of special general convention and regular general convention, the leaders present in the party had stressed the need to hold the 15th general convention in an impartial and fair manner by maintaining party unity.
