. KATHMANDU: The temples and shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva across the country including Pashupatinath are crowded with devotees today on the last Monday of the month of Shrawan. Devotees thronged various temples of Lord Shiva since early morning to offer prayers.
A large number
of devotees have thronged the Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu since early morning. Devotees have lined up with bel leaves, flowers, fruits and worship materials in their hands to pay homage to Lord Shiva.
There is a religious tradition of worshiping Lord Shiva on Mondays in the month of Saun.
Especially, women fast on the Monday of Shravan and worship Shiva. There is a religious belief that a married woman should fast wishing for the long life of her husband and for family happiness and prosperity while an unmarried woman should fast wishing for a suitable groom.
On the last Monday of the month of Saun, the devotees who have been fasting and worshiping throughout this month conclude the fast according to special religious rituals.
There is also a tradition of some devotees concluding the fast on Monday by performing religious rituals including Godan, Purnapatra.
Today’s last Monday is also said to coincide with the ‘Somapradosh Vrat’. Apart from Pashupatinath, devotees throng the temples of Lord Shiva including Doleshwor Mahadev of Bhaktapur, Kumbheshwor of Lalitpur, Pindeshwor and Halesi Mahadev of Sunsari, Galeshwor and Devghatdham of Myagdi.
Devotees have gathered at Sundarijal in Kathmandu since early morning on the last Monday of the month of Shrawan. Devotees take a bath in the Bagmati River at Sundarijal, purify themselves and offer water to the Pashupatinath temple They do.
