Nepali Congress demands to control inflation with easy supply of gas and fertiliser
Kathmandu.KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has drawn the attention of the government towards the supply of gas, shortage of chemical fertilizers, VAT levied on electricity consumption and rising price hike.
The meeting of the NC Central Working Committee held on Monday discussed the problems facing the people in their daily life and drew the attention of the government to resolve them, said NC Spokesperson Devraj Chalise.
According to him, people have to stand in queue for a long time due to the lack of easy supply of gas.
According to the Congress, the gas problem has arisen not only due to the war but also due to the lack of adequate storage and weakness in supply and management.
“The second day of the central committee meeting of the Nepali Congress focused on the current problems facing the people and drew the attention of the government to these issues,” he said. This problem has arisen not only because of the war, but also because of the decisions of the government, the lack of adequate stockpiles, and the confused supply and managerial style. It has demanded that the government should have a clear presence to adopt a far-sighted policy, make pre-arrangements for storage and manage people’s kitchens. “
The Congress has demanded the immediate withdrawal of VAT imposed on electricity consumption to encourage the use of induction stoves as an alternative to gas.
The NC has criticized the incumbent government for imposing VAT on electricity, saying the government had adopted a policy of providing discount on the import of induction stove and electricity to increase electricity consumption in the past. The Nepali Congress has demanded the government to manage the supply of chemical fertilizers, saying there is an acute shortage of chemical fertilizers during the farming season.
The NC has said that there is a risk of food crisis in the future due to the shortage of fertilizer.
The NC has said that black marketing is taking place even in the fertilizer available in the market and farmers going to the border areas to bring fertilizer are looted, beaten up and imprisoned.
‘Farmers are suffering from extreme shortage of fertilizers during the harvest season, which threatens to lead to a food crisis in the country in the future. Black marketing is also taking place in the market. The government is silent even when farmers are looted, beaten up and imprisoned while going to the border areas to bring fertilizers. It also pointed out the need for long-term provision of irrigation and protection of small farmers, guarantee of their production and market. The meeting urged the government to formulate a policy to open fertilizer factory in the country in a long-term manner by systematizing the fertilizer supply system,” he said.
The Nepali Congress has urged the government to pay attention to the protection of small farmers, guarantee of agricultural production and market and long-term irrigation system.
It has also urged the government to adopt a policy to establish fertilizer factories in the country to end dependence on chemical fertilizers.
Similarly, the daily living of low-income citizens is becoming difficult due to the rising inflation in the market.
Stating that market monitoring and price control have not been effective, they have demanded that the government take effective steps immediately.
According to Chalise, Monday’s meeting of the Central Working Committee (CWC) was mainly focused on issues directly related to the daily life of the people, including gas, fertilizer, electricity and price rise. According to him, the meeting of the central working committee of the NC would continue continuously and discussions would be held on the contemporary politics and the party’s convention in the coming days.
