Prime Minister himself has failed to follow good conduct: MP Ghimire
Kathmandu. National Assembly member Basudev Ghimire has accused Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) of failing to follow the ethics policy.
Speaking at a meeting of the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the National Assembly on Monday, lawmaker Ghimire said that the Prime Minister was not accountable to the parliament and the ministers’ statements and deeds were against the spirit of good conduct.
He said that the Prime Minister and ministers should introspect whether they are committed to morality or not before teaching good conduct to others. KATHMANDU: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has recalled that he had taken the first decision to bring the Integrity Policy when he was the Prime Minister for the fourth time. Stating that the government was ready to cooperate with the government for the implementation of the ethics policy, he expressed doubts whether the committee formed under the leadership of the Chief Secretary would make public the property details of the high-ranking employees or maintain full integrity.
Therefore, he stressed on the need of giving a clear message to the government and making it a national law to effectively implement the ethics policy.
Pointing out that there was an urgent need of a national ethics policy to control corruption and maintain good governance in the country, lawmaker Ghimire suggested that the National Vigilance Centre should be developed as a constitutional or autonomous body. He said that the good conduct policy could be fully implemented only if the vigilance center is made strong and independent and it will bring positive results in the country. He expressed the belief that people’s aspirations would be respected if the government forwarded the bill in the form of bill, pledging full support to the campaign.
The National Ethics Policy, 2083 has come into effect after the Cabinet endorsed it on July 3.
