. Chairman of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Kamlesh Agrawal said that the mobility sector should not be seen only as a luxury or consumption sector, but should be accepted as the engine of economic development.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Naima Mobility Expo-2026 on Tuesday, Chairman Agrawal said that the mobility sector contributes around 7 percent to the country’s GDP.
According to him, this sector has provided employment to more than 12 lakh people directly and indirectly.
He said, “Industry statistics show that the mobility sector contributes about seven percent of the total GDP of Nepal.
The sector provides direct and indirect employment to more than 12 lakh citizens. This sector is interconnected with various sectors such as banking, insurance, tourism, construction and information technology. “The mobility sector is interlinked with various sectors such as banking, insurance, tourism, construction and information technology, and its development will have a positive impact on the overall economy,” he said.
Agrawal claimed that the private sector has suffered huge losses due to the government’s regulatory policies.
According to him, the blacklisting of more than one and a half lakh industrialists and entrepreneurs and the slowdown of real estate, share market and manufacturing industries were the result of policy weakness.
Stating that the private sector accounted for 81 per cent of the total investment in Nepal, he urged the government to make an objective assessment of the impact of new policies and regulations on the private sector.
“Before bringing any new policy or regulation, there should be an objective assessment of its impact on the private sector,” he said.
Agrawal also said that the anti-money laundering law has created fear among businessmen and the general public.
According to him, the inquiries by the police administration as they could not show the source of the wealth earned in the past have created an atmosphere of fear in the market.
