. KATHMANDU: President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Birendra Raj Pandey, has said that it would be difficult to attract adequate investment in the economy without a stable government, a stable administrative mechanism and a clear policy.

Inaugurating the Nepal Mobility Expo 2026 organized by Nepal Automobiles Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) here today, he said policy stability and good governance were inevitable to win the trust of the investors. According to Pandey, Nepal should learn from the past economic challenges and experiences and now give priority to creating an investment-friendly environment.

He pointed out the need of a long-term and predictable policy as changes in policy, priorities and implementation pattern along with the change in government would create confusion among the investors.

‘The private sector makes a long-term plan when it invests. But investors cannot trust the future when the policies change and priorities change with the change of government,” he said.

He said the private sector should be encouraged to invest through legal reforms, transparency and good governance.

The private sector has expected a clear policy, effective implementation and business-friendly environment from the incumbent government.

Stating that youth human resources are the biggest strength of Nepal, Pandey said that a large number of youths going abroad for employment is a challenging situation for the economy.

He was of the view that adequate employment opportunities could be created if investment could be increased in industry, tourism, green technology, research and mobility sectors in the country.

According to him, the expansion of investment in the productive sector would reduce dependence on foreign employment and expand economic activities within the country.

He said that the development of tourism sector would also make industry, transport, service and other economic sectors dynamic.

Pandey further said that the Mobility Expo should not only be seen as an automobile exhibition but also as an important forum to discuss new technology, innovation, investment opportunities and future transportation system. At a time when the world is gravitating towards green energy and electric vehicles, Nepal should also capitalize on the opportunities in this sector through policy clarity and investment-friendly environment, he added. According to Pandey, with a stable government, clear policies, good governance and a friendly environment for the private sector, Nepal can make remarkable achievements in terms of investment growth, job creation and economic transformation.
